Tunbridge Ware is a distinct type of wooden decorative woodwork characterised by mosaic tile designs, originating in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, during the 18th century and reaching its height in the Victorian era.

Pieces are crafted using numerous native and exotic woods such as beech, sycamore, and mahogany, assembled in precise geometric or pictorial mosaic patterns using thousands of tiny individually coloured wood blocks.

Authentic pieces feature microscopic wood tesserae forming detailed images or patterns, often accompanied by original paper labels underneath, authentic patination, and period-appropriate turnery.

These small decorative objects work well displayed on open shelving, mantelpieces, or coffee tables, adding texture, history, and intricate detail to contemporary spaces.

Maintain pieces by keeping them out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, avoiding excessive moisture, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to protect the historic wooden surface.
