A Victorian sewing box, often referred to as a workbox, was a portable container used by 19th-century women to store sewing tools, threads, and needlework accessories.

These boxes were typically crafted from hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, frequently featuring decorative veneers like burr walnut, and lined with silk, velvet, or satin.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period construction techniques, hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hardware, and original fabric linings with fitted internal compartments for spools and tools.

This item can be displayed closed on a coffee table or open on a bookshelf to showcase its colourful interior lining while serving as functional storage for small household items.

Keep the box out of direct sunlight to prevent fading of the textile lining, maintain stable indoor humidity levels, and clean the wood periodically with appropriate wax polish.
