Twentieth-century display cabinets often draw inspiration from earlier Georgian and Edwardian designs, featuring refined timber construction, glazed doors for showcasing collections, and often delicate stringing or marquetry inlay.

These cabinets are typically constructed using solid hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, frequently accented with fine wood veneers, hand-cut dovetail joints, and individual glass panes set within wooden tracery or astragals.

Authenticity is identified through traditional joinery techniques, timber ageing characteristics such as oxidation and shrinkage, hand-blown or early drawn window glass with minor imperfections, and period-appropriate hardware.

Pair this cabinet with neutral wall colours to highlight the rich wood tones, and use the internal shelving to display curated collections of books, ceramics, or glassware to add architectural interest and sophistication to a room.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking or fading. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a quality microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish and protect the polished surface.
