FAQs

Antique pistol boxes were traditionally crafted to securely house duelling pistols, revolvers, and their accompanying cleaning and loading accessories during the 18th and 19th centuries.

These cases were typically built using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, reinforced with brass banding and corner brackets for durability during travel, and often lined with baize or velvet.

Authentic pieces generally feature period-appropriate joinery such as dovetailing, hand-cut brass screws, original escutcheons, and natural wear patterns consistent with age and utility.

Such items work effectively as decorative accent pieces when placed on a coffee table, bookshelf, or desk to store small accessories while adding textural contrast and historical interest.

Preservation involves applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood and protect the brass components, avoiding direct sunlight, and maintaining stable humidity levels to prevent warping.
