A Regency tea caddy is a small, lidded box crafted during the early 19th century specifically designed to store and preserve expensive loose-leaf tea, often featuring internal compartments and lockable mechanisms.

These pieces were typically constructed from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or burl veneers, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, brass escutcheons, and interior foil or timber lids.

Authentic items exhibit period-correct construction methods like hand-cut dovetailing, aged patination on the timber, original brass hardware, and hand-carved or veneered surfaces characteristic of early 19th-century cabinet making.

This piece can be styled as a decorative accent on a bookshelf, coffee table, or sideboard, adding historical texture and warmth to contemporary living spaces.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, applying microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the timber and protect the original finish.
