A Charles II high-back chair is a seating style from the late 17th-century Restoration period in England, characterised by an elongated, elaborately carved wooden frame and woven cane panels.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from native hardwoods such as walnut or beech, featuring woven cane inserts for the backrest and seat, often supplemented by hand-carved ornamentation.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-turned elements showing tool marks, and appropriate patina and wear consistent with age on the wood and cane.

A historic high-back chair functions effectively as a sculptural accent piece in a modern room, placed against a neutral wall or paired with a minimalist desk to highlight its intricate silhouette.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels to prevent the cane from drying out and snapping, avoiding direct sunlight, and cleaning the wood with a soft, dry cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
