Mirrors from the 18th century often feature classical proportions, hand-carved wooden frames finished in gold leaf or gesso, and distinct architectural influences ranging from Georgian symmetry to early neoclassical designs.

Authentic pieces were typically constructed using pine or oak frames, hand-gilded with gold leaf over a prepared gesso layer. The glass plates were traditionally manufactured using a tin-mercury amalgam process before modern silvering techniques were introduced.

Authentic antique glass often exhibits characteristic foxing, which includes dark spots, oxidation, minor scratches, and slight waviness in the reflection due to historical hand-pouring and silvering methods.

An antique mirror creates a sophisticated focal point when hung above a modern minimalist sideboard or used to contrast clean lines with rich historical textures in a contemporary living space.

Preservation requires avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity, and dusting gently with a dry, soft microfiber cloth to protect both the fragile antique glass and the delicate gilded frame.
