Shaker rocking chairs originated from the United Society of Believers in Christs Second Appearing, commonly known as Shakers, who valued utility, simplicity, and honest craftsmanship in their communal furniture production.

These chairs typically feature native hardwoods such as maple, birch, or oak, combined with woven rush, cane, or tape seats, utilising mortise and tenon joinery for structural integrity.

Authentic pieces often exhibit makers marks or numbers stamped on the rear posts, hand-shaped slats, traditional steam-bent components, and appropriate wear consistent with age and hand-crafted construction.

Positioning the chair against a neutral, minimalist wall or pairing it with a textured wool throw allows its clean architectural lines and natural wood grain to function as a focal point.

Maintain these pieces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and conditioning the timber with appropriate wax periodically.
