Description

A superb set of six antique Victorian oak masonic dining chairs. They were made in England, and date from around the 1880-1900 period.

They are of superb quality and have an extremely interesting design. The back rests are arched in the typical masonic style, and each chair has a unique carved masonic symbol. They are all solid oak, sitting on turned legs with stretchered bases. The arm rests are nicely scrolled and the backs have interesting sloped supports running from the top of the arch to the seats.

We have had the chairs re-polished, and the seat cushions have been newly made in a cream cotton fabric. If someone wanted to recover the cushions in a fabric of their choice, it wouldn’t cost much, because half the work has been done now. The condition is excellent for their age.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian Masonic furniture includes pieces commissioned for lodges during the 19th century, frequently incorporating symbolic iconography such as crests and geometric motifs associated with fraternal orders.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid quarter-sawn oak, utilising traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved detailing, and turned wooden supports.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the grain, patination, tool marks, joinery construction, and wear patterns consistent with nineteenth-century hand-craftsmanship rather than modern reproduction methods.

Integrating period seating into modern spaces works effectively by pairing the dark wood textures with minimalist dining tables or neutral upholstery to create a balanced, eclectic aesthetic.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber drying, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the antique wood finish.
