Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

FAQs

Lacquered items from Japan gained significant popularity in Europe and America during the late 19th century due to the rise of Japonisme, heavily influencing Victorian and Edwardian decorative arts.

Traditional lacquerware involves applying multiple coats of processed sap from the lacquer tree onto a hardwood or pine core, often supplemented with intricate hand-carved relief elements and gilt detailing.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit signs of age in the lacquer finish, such as fine craquelure or minor oxidisation, combined with traditional joinery methods and hand-carved regional motifs like dragons or Mount Fuji.

Such a statement piece works effectively when balanced against neutral walls and minimalist furnishings, allowing the intricate carved details and rich colour palette to serve as a focal point.

Maintain lacquer items by keeping them away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, cleaning them only with a soft, dry microfibre cloth without chemical polishes.
