FAQs

A bellows shaped snuff box is a small, novelty pocket container crafted to mimic the form of fireplace bellows, typically used in the 18th and 19th centuries to hold powdered tobacco.

These boxes were traditionally hand-carved from dense hardwoods such as fruitwood, boxwood, or mahogany, and often embellished with brass wire inlay or pique work.

Authenticity is determined by examining the tool marks, natural patina, wear patterns, hinge construction, and the precision of any metal inlay relative to the period of manufacture.

Small antique objects add historical texture and character when displayed on a bookshelf, coffee table tray, or within a cabinet of curiosities alongside contemporary decor.

Preservation involves keeping the item out of direct sunlight, avoiding excessive moisture or dry heat, and occasionally applying a microcrystalline wax to protect the historic wood finish.
