Regency furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1820, is characterised by classical revival motifs inspired by ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt, featuring clean proportions, dark exotic woods like rosewood, and sophisticated brass or carved detailing.

These pieces typically utilise dense imported hardwoods such as rosewood or mahogany, often featuring hand-carved decorative elements, joined with traditional mortise and tenon techniques, and frequently incorporating woven cane seating panels.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber ageing, hand-cut joinery marks, patination on the wood finish, the weave consistency of traditional cane work, and period-accurate carving styles rather than modern machine tooling.

Pairing these dark wood chairs with a contemporary minimalist dining table creates a striking focal point, balancing historical craftsmanship with clean, modern architectural lines.

Maintain these pieces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting and cane brittleness, applying occasional micro-crystalline wax, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
