The William IV period bridges late Regency and early Victorian aesthetics, characterised by robust classical proportions, architectural motifs such as columns and block corners, and the frequent use of figured mahogany.

These pieces were typically constructed using solid mahogany or pine carcasses veneered with flame mahogany, featuring hand-applied gilt slips, backboards of deal or pine, and silvered glass plates.

Authenticity is indicated by period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut screws, early float or cylinder glass with minor oxidisation, dry timber patination, and traditional joinery on the rear frame.

Positioning the mirror above a fireplace or a sideboard creates a focal point that reflects natural light, contrasting traditional warmth with minimalist or modern architectural backdrops.

Maintain the wood using microcrystalline wax to nourish the grain, avoid chemical cleaners on the antique glass plate, and keep the piece away from direct heat sources and high humidity.
