Antique elm chairs typically feature regional British or European vernacular designs, prioritising utilitarian functionality and sturdy local construction over formal ornamentation.

These pieces are predominantly crafted from solid English elm, known for its interlocking grain and resistance to splitting, utilising traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon frames.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut joinery, timber shrinkage patterns, natural patination, tool marks, and consistent wear appropriate to age.

Pairing them with a contrasting modern or minimalist table creates a balanced focal point that highlights the organic grain and historical character of the wood.

Maintain antique elm by avoiding direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations, applying occasional microcrystalline wax, and dusting gently with a dry cloth.
