Fine clean solid oak framed adult size Scottish Orkney chair in very good condition. Golden oak frame with brass dome head screws. Nice pattern to the original seat. Orkney chairs originated in the remote Scottish islands, traditionally crafted by local furniture makers using driftwood frames and hand-woven oat straw backs to protect inhabitants from cold drafts.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed using native timber such as oak or beech for the structural frame, combined with twisted oaten or wheat straw for the distinctive woven back and seat.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-twisted straw weave, traditional pegged wooden joinery, timber patination, and the characteristic low seat designed for hearthside warmth.

This piece works well as an accent seat in a living room or study, where its organic texture contrasts effectively against contemporary minimalist or neutral surroundings.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels to prevent the straw from drying out and cracking, alongside dusting gently with a soft brush and avoiding direct sunlight.
