Art Deco design originated in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by geometric shapes, stylised motifs, symmetrical patterns, and the use of innovative materials such as tinted and peach-coloured mirror glass.

Period mirrors typically feature silvered glass panels mounted on wooden backing boards, often utilizing bevelled edges, acid etching, and leaded or screwed glass segments to secure the layered decorative panels.

Authenticity is usually determined by inspecting the backing wood, screw types, foxing or oxidisation within the silvering of the glass, and the specific pastel or peach tones characteristic of interwar glass production.

These statement pieces work well when mounted above a sideboard or console table as a focal point, reflecting natural light and adding symmetrical visual interest to contemporary living spaces.

Clean mirror glass gently using a soft microfibre cloth and a mild, ammonia-free solution, avoiding excessive moisture near the edges to prevent further silvering deterioration and oxidisation.
