Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian dining chairs typically feature dark woods such as walnut or mahogany, ornate hand-carved backrests with motifs like scrolls or leaves, and turned or fluted front legs.

Master craftsmen predominantly utilised dense hardwoods like walnut, mahogany, and oak for the frames, paired with traditional joinery methods and horsehair or wool stuffing beneath fabric upholstery.

Authenticity is assessed by inspecting the joinery for hand-cut joints, examining the timber for age-related patina and shrinkage, and checking the underside for tool marks and historical upholstery methods.

Pairing dark wood antique chairs with a minimalist modern dining table creates a striking contrast that highlights the craftsmanship of the period while maintaining a fresh, balanced living space.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally applying high-quality beeswax to nourish the wood, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity to prevent warping.
