The Regency style, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, draws heavily upon classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs, characterised by formal symmetry, architectural elements, and refined ornamentation.

These pieces typically feature a carved soft-wood or composition frame coated in gesso before being water-gilded or oil-gilded with genuine gold leaf.

Authentic period pieces often exhibit hand-carved details, traditional gesso application showing signs of age-related craquelure, and older plate glass with slight oxidisation or imperfections.

A gilt mirror serves as a strong focal point and can be hung above a fireplace or a sideboard to reflect natural light and create a sense of expanded space in contemporary rooms.

Gilt surfaces are extremely delicate and should be dusted gently with a soft dry brush, avoiding all water, abrasive cloths, and chemical cleaning agents.
