Edwardian display cabinets emerged during the reign of King Edward VII, moving away from heavy Victorian aesthetics towards lighter, neoclassical-inspired designs that often incorporated satinwood stringing and delicate marquetry.

These cabinets were typically constructed from solid mahogany or satinwood, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, delicate boxwood stringing, and glazed doors with wooden glazing bars.

Authenticity can be determined by examining the timber grain, hand-cut joinery, type of glass used in the doors, and the presence of period-appropriate brass hardware and interior lining.

Pair the traditional wood tones with contemporary minimalist decor, using the internal shelves to curate collections of monochrome books, ceramics, or glassware to create a balanced focal point.

Maintain the timber by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding extreme humidity fluctuations, and periodically applying a microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the polished surface.
