Victorian furniture is characterised by a revival of historical epochs, heavily influenced by Gothic, Elizabethan, and Rococo movements, often featuring ornate carvings and luxurious upholstery.

Cabinet makers typically utilised dense hardwoods such as rosewood, walnut, and mahogany, paired with traditional horsehair stuffing, coil springs, and hand-tufted buttoning.

Authentication involves examining traditional joinery techniques, hand-carved detailing, timber patination, and the presence of hand-tied coil springs or period-appropriate upholstery webbing beneath.

Integrating a period armchair into a contemporary scheme works best by pairing its ornate wooden frame and textured upholstery against neutral walls to create a striking focal point.

Preserve the timber and fabric by keeping the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying occasional high-grade beeswax to the wood, and using professional upholstery cleaning methods.
