Description

At 77cm high, this attractive and practical 1920s mahogany tabour fronted filing cabinet will sit comfortably next to your desk, providing you with extra storage and working surface. The eight drawers are of a standard four-sided format, ideal for storing paperwork. Each drawer has its original brass label holder. Its smooth running tambour front also has its original brass escutcheon, working lock and key. As you can see from the images the surface has retained an appealing warmth, which our restorers have further enhanced using traditional French polish and wax. The drawers have spent much of their life behind the tambour so are slightly darker in colour. This difference in tone to the exterior is particularly pleasing. A good looking cabinet, ready to be used and enjoyed.

Dealers Notes

Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.

We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tambour front cabinet features a flexible shutter door made of narrow slats of wood glued to a canvas or leather backing, allowing the door to slide smoothly around a track to conceal the interior contents.

Office furniture from the 1920s was predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut, frequently complemented by cast brass or bronze pull handles and label holders.

Authentic period pieces typically feature traditional joinery such as dovetail construction on the drawers, solid timber panels, heavy brass hardware, and natural ageing characteristics in the timber finish rather than modern veneers or particleboard.

Such pieces serve as functional statement storage in a home office or study, contrasting effectively against minimalist decor or adding warmth and traditional texture to industrial and modern schemes.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying a traditional beeswax polish to nourish the timber.
