This Amberg’s patent American letter file cabinet dates from the Victorian period. Constructed from mahogany with a warm brown colour, it stands on a plinth base and has twin panelled doors with brass drop handles, enclosing internal document compartments with brass index hardware. The piece shows visible wear and age, including a later finish needing removal in parts, missing brass to a drawer front, and odd clips missing. Measuring 76 cm wide, 76 cm high and 36 cm deep, it is suitable for placement in a gentleman's library or home office to store documents. Restoration work is required on this cabinet, including numbering the internal wooden file drawers, which currently slide adequately.
