This freestanding filing cabinet dates from the Edwardian period and exemplifies a gentleman's library style. Constructed from golden oak, the cabinet exhibits a warm brown timber colour with a slatted tambour shutter door that operates vertically. The top frieze incorporates a brass keyhole escutcheon above a central wooden pull handle fitted with a hanging tassel. The rectangular body rests upon a plain plinth base supported by rectangular block feet, and the exterior shows surface wear commensurate with its age. Measuring 115 cm high, 47 cm wide and 36 cm deep, this vertical storage unit provides compact organisation for paperwork, crafts or small collections. The tambour mechanism conceals nine internal drawers, each measuring 38 cm wide and 30 cm deep. Such a piece suits a home study, executive office, hallway or library as a practical workspace or study storage solution.

A tambour filing cabinet is a vertical storage piece featuring a flexible front door constructed from thin wooden slats mounted onto canvas. The slatted door slides up into a hidden top track to reveal internal shelves or document trays.

Tambour doors are crafted by glueing individual wooden slats side-by-side onto a flexible heavy-duty canvas backing. This construction allows the wooden front to glide smoothly along curved side channels inside the cabinet casing.

Authentic pieces from the early 20th century typically feature solid oak frame construction, original brass keyhole escutcheons, and fitted interior document trays or index drawers. Smooth functionality of the flexible slat door and age-appropriate wood patination also indicate authenticity.

An antique tambour cabinet serves as ideal vertical storage in modern home offices, hallways, or living rooms. Its closed wooden front hides clutter, while the natural timber tones complement both contemporary minimalist decor and traditional schemes.

Dust the exterior wooden slats regularly with a soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the timber finish. Ensure the internal canvas backing remains dry to prevent warping and keep the guide channels clear of debris.
