FAQs

An antique tea caddy is a small lidded container historically used to store loose leaf tea safely when tea was an expensive commodity, often featuring a lock and key to restrict access.

Traditional tea caddies were crafted from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, burr walnut, or rosewood, frequently featuring veneers, brass hinges, and sometimes interior foil lining or divided compartments.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, hand-cut dovetails or joinery, period-appropriate brass hardware, and the presence of natural ageing, wear patterns, and internal residual scent or lining.

This piece can be placed on a bookshelf, sideboard, or coffee table to add textural warmth, historical interest, and discreet storage for small everyday items.

Preservation requires keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, applying occasional microcrystalline wax, and cleaning gently with a dry, soft cloth.
