The Chippendale style, popular during the mid-to-late 18th century, is characterised by its synthesis of Gothic, Rococo, and Chinese influences, typically executed in rich timbers such as mahogany.

Authentic pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany with mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved decorative motifs, and drop-in upholstered seat frames.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber patina, tool marks from hand-carving, traditional joinery techniques, and overall structural proportions consistent with 18th-century cabinet making.

Pairing this historic seating with minimalist or contemporary decor creates a striking focal point, allowing the traditional craftsmanship and dark timber tones to contrast effectively with clean lines.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat the timber periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
