Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often featured lighter proportions and borrowed motifs from earlier Georgian, Sheraton, and Chippendale periods, frequently utilising satinwood inlay and mahogany.

Cabinetmakers during the Edwardian era predominantly used solid mahogany and satinwood, often enhanced with intricate marquetry or string inlay, brass hardware, and hand-blown cylinder glass for the doors.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints, slight imperfections in vintage glass panes, and genuine natural oxidisation and patination on the timber surfaces.

Pairing dark wood antique furniture with neutral, minimalist walls and contemporary lighting creates a striking contrast that highlights the craftsmanship without overwhelming the room.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, and clean periodically using a soft, dry cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
