The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by refined craftsmanship, classical proportions, and a transition from heavier walnut to the widespread use of imported mahogany.

These boxes were typically constructed from solid hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring dovetail joinery at the corners, brass escutcheons, and internal partitioning for document organisation.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction such as hand-cut dovetails, older secondary wood linings, period brass hardware, and natural patina resulting from age and use.

A period box serves as functional tabletop storage, working well placed on a console table, desk, or bookshelf to store small items while adding textural warmth and historical contrast.

Preserve the finish by keeping the wood out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, applying occasional microcrystalline wax to nourish the grain without damaging the historic surface.
