Description

A Queen Anne Walnut Chair, England C1710 with Drop-in Seat, Original Form.

A fine example of an elegant early 18th century, Queen Anne walnut chair of original, handsome form with an established patina and great colour.

A stylish curved high back, a typical feature of the earlier Queen Anne models with shaped top rail and central vase splat, thin shaped moulded rails and original drop-in seat, requiring upholstery. Front cabriole legs with pad feet, turned rails with square terminals where they unite.

A well constructed, cabinet made chair in excellent original condition, just back from our workshop where it received minimal conservation.., no significant historic repairs, a repair to 1 of the pad feet but nothing intrusive and very stable, it sits well.

A superbly stylish Queen Anne chair, a versatile chair for a day or bedroom, hallway or occasional side chair etc.., that feels at home in a classic or contemporary space. A handsome antique chair with a considerable interior design appeal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Queen Anne style emerged in England during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, characterised by a shift towards comfort, curved lines, and refined proportions.

Cabinet makers predominantly used figured walnut, alongside secondary native timbers like oak and pine for internal framing and stretchers.

Authentic pieces typically feature pegged mortise and tenon joinery, hand-carved splats, cabriole legs, and traditional patination consistent with age.

Pairing a period wooden chair with a contemporary minimalist table creates a striking contrast that highlights the craftsmanship and texture of both pieces.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat the wooden surfaces periodically with microcrystalline wax.
