The Arts and Crafts movement was an international design philosophy that originated in Britain around 1880, championing traditional craftsmanship, hand-working, and simple forms inspired by medieval and folk styles.

Artisans typically used non-ferrous metals such as copper, brass, and pewter, employing techniques like hand-beating, repousse, etching, and inlay work to create textured, organic surfaces.

Authentic pieces often exhibit makers marks or initials stamped on the reverse, visible hand-hammered tool marks, and construction details that reflect individual artisan production rather than mass manufacturing.

Such pieces serve as striking focal points above a mantelpiece or console table, contrasting effectively against minimalist or neutral backdrops to highlight their textural metallic qualities.

Metal surfaces should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners that can strip the natural oxidisation and historical patina.
