Description

Crisply turned frame in original condition throughout.

The chair may have been used in an artist's studio, there are isolated spots of water-based paint around the arms, (which could be completely removed), and a small spot of paint on the seat.

Condition: Lovely warm consistent colour, small loss to the cresting rail to the right edge and a nick to the leather, both visible see mages. There are no breaks or repairs to frame, but it does creak a bit and there's a little 'play,' so although able to fullfill its original purpose without too much fuss, it is more of an occasional chair for all but the daintiest of sitters.

The Arts and Crafts movement originated in the late 19th century, emphasising traditional craftsmanship, simple forms, and local natural materials as a reaction against industrial manufacturing.

Cabinet makers typically utilised dense hardwoods such as walnut, oak, and beech, often pairing them with natural leather hides, rush seating, and brass upholstery tacks.

Authentic pieces usually exhibit traditional joinery methods, appropriate patination on the timber, hand-turned spindles, and maker marks or registration numbers where applicable.

Such pieces function effectively as accent seating in studies or living rooms, providing textural contrast and historical depth when juxtaposed with modern minimalist furnishings.

Maintenance involves keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources, occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to wood, and treating leather with specialised leather conditioners.
