The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by a transition from heavy Palladianism to lighter, more refined neoclassical designs influenced by cabinetmakers like Thomas Chippendale and Sheraton.

These mirrors were traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or walnut, featuring mortise and tenon joinery, brass pivot hardware, and original castors for mobility.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut secondary timbers, old mirror plate with slight foxing, traditional hand-turned wooden components, and period-appropriate brass fittings rather than modern screws.

A classic wooden cheval mirror functions effectively as a focal point in contemporary dressing rooms or bedrooms, contrasting clean modern walls with rich historical texture and warm timber tones.

Preservation requires keeping the piece out of direct sunlight to prevent wood fading, avoiding chemical glass cleaners that can seep behind the silvering, and occasionally conditioning the wood with appropriate wax.
