We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Writing boxes gained immense popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries as portable desks for correspondence, travel, and personal administration before the widespread availability of fixed stationery furniture.

These boxes typically featured a robust timber carcass, often pine or mahogany, covered in embossed or tooled leather, and fitted with brass hardware such as carrying handles, hinges, and lock escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints, patinated leather with genuine wear, hand-forged or cast brass fittings, and traditional key-operated locks.

It functions effectively as a decorative desk accessory or tabletop storage piece, adding historical texture and sophisticated contrast when placed on a modern console, sideboard, or home office desk.

Maintain the leather by keeping it out of direct sunlight and occasionally treating it with microcrystalline wax or appropriate leather balsam to prevent drying and cracking, while avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
