We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Overmantel mirrors rose to prominence during the 18th and 19th centuries, designed specifically to hang above fireplace mantels to reflect candlelight and amplify light within Victorian and Georgian reception rooms.

These pieces typically feature hand-carved wooden frames finished with ebonisation (blackened wood mimicking ebony) and applied gold leaf or gilt decoration, housing silvered sheet glass with bevelled edges.

Authenticity is indicated by old silvering oxidation on the glass plate, hand-cut joinery, pine or hardwood secondary backing boards, and genuine wear consistent with age rather than artificial distress.

An ebonised and gilt mirror provides a striking focal point above a contemporary fireplace or console table, contrasting sharply against neutral walls to ground a room with historical depth.

Dust the carved frame gently with a soft dry brush and clean the glass using a lint-free cloth with water or mild vinegar solution, ensuring moisture never seeps behind the frame edges to damage the silvering.
