FAQs

Victorian rocking chairs from the late 19th century typically feature substantial carved wooden frames, often crafted from walnut or mahogany, combined with deep upholstery and elaborate scrollwork or crest rails.

These chairs were predominantly built using hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak for the structural frame, paired with horsehair stuffing, coil springs, and heavy woven textiles like velvet or tapestry for upholstery.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction methods such as hand-cut joinery, traditional hardware, age-related timber patination, and wear patterns consistent with genuine use rather than modern artificial distressing.

An antique rocking chair works well as a statement accent piece in a living room, bedroom, or reading nook, contrasting effectively against contemporary neutral walls and minimalist furnishings.

Preservation involves keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood cracking and fabric fading, applying appropriate wax feeds to timber surfaces, and using gentle vacuuming or professional cleaning for the upholstery.
