This Georgian bedside table dates from the 19th Century and is constructed from rich brown mahogany with flame mahogany veneer. The piece takes the form of a nightstand and washstand featuring a tray top with raised edges, an open central shelf, and a single oak-lined drawer fitted with a small round brass knob. Below the drawer, the upright square legs are connected by a curved X-shaped lower stretcher centred with a small circular platform. Historic knocks, marks, scratches, and repairs show across the timber surfaces, reflecting centuries of practical use. Measuring 38 cm wide by 41 cm deep and 86 cm high, the table provides compact tiered storage suitable for an empty corner in a bedroom or hallway. The sturdy framework and multi-level design make it practical for holding a bedside lamp, books, or decorative objects in a traditional home interior.

Georgian furniture, produced between 1714 and 1837, is distinguished by classical proportions, symmetry, and refined woodwork. Mahogany was the predominant timber used during this era, often detailed with flame veneers, turned legs, and elegant stretchers.

19th-century pieces were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or oak, with flame mahogany veneers applied to prominent surfaces. Drawer linings were typically made from pine or oak using hand-cut dovetail joints and fitted with cast brass hardware.

Authentic Georgian furniture exhibits signs of hand-construction, including uneven drawer bottoms, hand-cut dovetails, and saw marks on unpolished surfaces. Natural wood shrinkage over time creates subtle irregularity in dimensions, and original brass fittings will display age-appropriate patination.

Incorporate a Georgian table alongside contemporary furniture to create visual contrast. The slim proportions make it suitable as an accent stand, bedside table, or end table in modern living spaces and bedrooms.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber patina. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish fading.
