This Georgian bedside cabinet dates from the mid eighteenth century, around 1770, and exhibits a classic English country house design. The piece is constructed from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour, finished with flame mahogany veneer across the double cupboard doors and the lower curved drawer. The top surface forms a tray top gallery with scalloped edges and cut-out handholds, while the lower section features a shaped apron above square legs. Original brass hardware includes a small drop ring on the right door and a decorative bail handle on the drawer. Practical proportions measure 46 cm wide, 48 cm deep, and 56 cm high. Placed beside a bed or in a living room, the cabinet provides surface display and concealed storage within a compact footprint.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying high-grade natural beeswax once or twice a year, while avoiding direct heat sources and drastic humidity changes to protect the original veneer.

A Georgian bedside cabinet functions effectively as an occasional side table beside a modern armchair, a compact storage solution in a hallway alcove, or as a traditional nightstand alongside upholstered bedding.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks on back panels, hand-cut dovetail joinery, natural timber shrinkage over time, original brass drop handles, and characteristic pierced gallery handholds carved directly into the tray top border.

These cabinets were primarily constructed from solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers, featuring oak secondary timbers for drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, and cast brass hardware.

Originating in mid-18th century Britain during the George III period, tray top bedside cabinets were functional bedroom items designed with a raised rim gallery to prevent items from falling off, often featuring pierced handholds and enclosed storage compartments.
