This set of eight Georgian dining chairs comprises a harlequin close matching group in ash, elm and oak with a rich warm brown waxed and polished timber finish. Each chair features a ladderback design with wavy rails, solid panel seats, and turned front stretchers resting on pad feet. The group measures 92 cm high by 47 cm wide and 36 cm deep, with a seat height of 45 cm. Well suited for everyday dining, these sturdy yet lightweight chairs bring traditional English country house character to a dining room or kitchen setting. The mixed timber construction offers subtle variations in grain and tone across the set, making them a practical and charming addition to a period or rustic interior scheme.

FAQs

Georgian ladderback chairs originated in 18th-century Britain, distinguished by horizontal back slats arranged in a ladder formation, typically crafted from regional hardwoods such as oak or ash.

These chairs were constructed using solid native timbers, joined via traditional mortise and tenon joints held with wooden pegs, often featuring turned front legs and hand-carved horizontal rails.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand-planing, irregular turned components, hand-cut wooden dowels, and subtle timber shrinkage along the grain acquired over centuries.

They are frequently placed around modern minimalist or scrubbed timber dining tables to introduce texture and historical contrast within contemporary spaces.

Apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish once or twice annually using a soft cloth, keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture.
