A late 19th century yew wood wall mirror in the Chippendale Revival style brings English Country House character to any interior. The piece consists of a warm brown yew wood frame with scroll cut edges, a fretwork silhouette, and a shaped crested top. A carved silvered bird decoration sits near the top edge above a rectangular glass plate. An ornate moulded silvered inner slip borders the mirror glass, contrasting with the warm timber tones of the surrounding woodwork. The whole assembly measures 93 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. This wall mirror functions well in various rooms throughout a modern home, finding a traditional home above a sideboard in a dining room, living area, or hallway. The construction combines timber framing with metallic highlights, offering a decorative wall hanging suitable for period properties and classic interiors. The reflective glass surface helps brighten surrounding spaces while providing a functional accessory for everyday use. Maintenance involves standard care for antique wooden frames and mirrored glass to preserve the finish.

A Chippendale style fretwork mirror is characterised by hand-cut scrollwork silhouettes surrounding the central glass, often featuring a carved cresting motif such as a bird or shell.

Mirrors from this era frequently utilised dense timber such as yew, mahogany, or walnut for the outer frame, combined with water-gilded accent moulding surrounding the mirror glass.

Authentic 19th-century examples display distinctive fine-grained yew timber with natural figure variations, period backboards, and slight hand-worked irregularities along the fretwork cutouts.

Positioning a carved wooden mirror above a hall console table or fireplace mantel creates a focal point that bridges historical craftsmanship with contemporary design elements.

Dust the timber and gilded surfaces gently with a soft dry microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners on gilded areas, while cleaning the glass by applying cleaner sparingly to a cloth.
