Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian era spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, from 1714 to 1830. This period is characterised by classical proportions, sophisticated craftsmanship, and the transition from heavier walnut to finer imported mahogany as the primary timber.

Authentic pieces from this period were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany, oak, or walnut. Master craftsmen utilised traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved details, and drop-in upholstered seats secured with handmade wooden blocks.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the timber for age-related patina, tool marks from hand-working, and consistent wear patterns. Original joinery should lack modern screws or machine-cut elements, and the underside often reveals centuries of oxidisation and construction idiosyncrasies.

Pairing historical seating with a contemporary dining table creates a striking juxtaposition that highlights the craftsmanship of both eras. Mixing period chairs with minimalist architecture adds warmth, texture, and historical depth to a contemporary dining space.

Preserve antique wood by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the grain. Harsh chemical cleaners must be avoided in favour of a soft, dry cloth for regular dusting.
