Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

A matched pair of French Chateau bedside cabinets from 1910 bring traditional continental style to a modern bedroom. Each cabinet combines painted wood and brown marble to create a practical bedside storage solution with an open lower shelf and a single drawer. The solid construction rests upon slender cabriole legs with escargot feet, while single brass drawer pulls add a subtle metallic detail to the grey painted finish. The timber surfaces show a slightly shabbied clear wax appearance that highlights the period character of the pair. Measuring 85 cm high, 44 cm wide, and 44 cm deep, these compact tables fit neatly beside a bed to hold a lamp, book, and nighttime essentials. Their neutral grey and brown colour scheme adapts easily to various interior palettes, making them suitable for guest rooms, master suites, or traditional dressing areas. The combination of enclosed drawer storage and an open compartment keeps daily items organised yet accessible.

FAQs

Originating in 18th-century France, chevet tables or pot cupboards were designed as small bedside companions to store night-time necessities. Painted finishes became popular in regional French furniture to protect local woods while imitating the decorative finishes of Parisian court designs.

Traditional French bedside cabinets are constructed from hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or beech, often finished with milk paint or chalk paint. Tops frequently featured fitted marble slabs to provide a durable, liquid-resistant surface.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-carved details along the apron and legs, and natural wear patterns beneath painted layers. Marble tops often exhibit slight hand-cut irregularities on the underside.

Place them on either side of a contemporary upholstered bed to introduce balance and texture. Their neutral painted tone and stone tops allow them to integrate seamlessly into modern rustic, minimalist, or transitional spaces.

Clean the marble top using a soft cloth dampened with warm water and a neutral pH stone cleaner to prevent acid etching. Wipe painted wooden surfaces gently with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical sprays.
