This pair of French bedside tables in the Louis XVI taste, dating to the early 1900s, takes the form of oval off-white painted cabinets. Each piece incorporates a marble top, a single drawer with a small metal knob handle, and a cupboard door displaying carved floral cresting above raised mouldings. The structure rests on fluted tapered legs joined by a circular lower tier shelf. Additional carved floral motifs appear on the upper corners flanking the drawer. Grey paint with cream highlights covers the wooden surfaces. The tables measure 80 cm high, 41 cm wide, and 41 cm deep. Suitable for placement beside a bed in a bedroom setting, the pair functions practically for surface display and enclosed storage.

FAQs

A table de chevet is a small French bedside table or cabinet designed to sit beside a bed, traditionally originating in the eighteenth century to house night-time items.

These pieces were traditionally crafted from solid hardwoods such as beech, oak, or walnut, frequently decorated with painted or lacquered finishes and fitted with marble tops.

Key design features include straight fluted tapered legs, geometric oval or rectangular forms, carved rosette or ribbon motifs, and fitted marble tops.

Place a matching pair alongside an upholstered bed frame and add modern ceramic table lamps to create a balance between classical craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust surfaces using a soft microfibre cloth, clean marble with pH-neutral stone cleaner, and keep painted finishes clear of excess moisture and direct heat sources.
