A Mid 19th Century French Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock

£1,695    $2,263    €2,014
A mid 19th century French mantel clock in a bronze case, the 3.25” white enamel dial with Roman numerals and outer minute track, gilt metal club and heart hands, and marked F. L. Hausburg below, in a gilt bronze drumhead case with cast decoration and with a figure of a boy in medieval dress seated on a fallen column, and with applied scrolls and musical instruments below the dial, to an eight day striking movement with a bell, the backplate marked F. L. Hausburg ą Paris, and bearing a circular stamped mark “Medaille d’Argent, Vincenti et Cie” French, circa 1850.

Condition: Overall very good, the dial is in good condition with the exception of a small loss of enamel around the right hand winding arbour, otherwise it is free from damage. The case is in extremely good condition with bright rich gilding and nicely contrasting dark patination to the bronze, none of which has been polished. The movement has been fully serviced and overhauled and is in full working order. The clock strikes the hours and half hours on a bell which has a nice clear tone.
