Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Meiji period Shibayama cabinet is a Japanese display piece produced between 1868 and 1912, distinguished by detailed inlays of mother-of-pearl, shell, bone, and horn mounted in high relief onto lacquered wood panels.

These cabinets are constructed from dense tropical hardwoods, often incorporating gold and black urushi lacquer, alongside intricately carved bone, ivory, coral, and iridescent mother-of-pearl for decorative surface inlays.

Authentic pieces feature multi-dimensional encrusted reliefs rather than flat inlays, finely carved asymmetrical shelving configurations, and detailed craftsmanship depicting naturalistic subjects like birds, flowers, and traditional figures.

Position the cabinet as a focal statement piece against a neutral wall, allowing its intricate woodwork and gold accenting to contrast with clean, minimalist contemporary architecture.

Maintain a stable humidity level to prevent the hardwood from warping or shrinking, keep the piece away from direct sunlight to avoid fading urushi lacquer, and dust gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth.
