Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cushion mirror, or mirror with marginal glass panels, features a central mirror pane surrounded by smaller angled border mirror sections, originating in 17th and 18th-century Europe to maximize reflective surface area and light distribution.

These mirrors are constructed using a carved timber frame coated with gessoa traditional preparation of chalk and binderwhich is then painted, gilded, or distressed before housing hand-cut glass mirror plates.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved joinery on the rear wooden frame, natural craquelure or minor flaking to the painted gesso finish, and slight oxidisation or foxing on the glass mirror plates.

Position the mirror centrally above a fireplace mantelpiece or console table, or rest it directly against a wall to act as a full-length architectural focal point that reflects natural light.

Dust the ornate gesso mouldings regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush, and clean the mirror glass with a lightly dampened cloth while keeping moisture away from the gesso borders.
