A large Regency gilt pier glass by Thomas Fentham of London. This is very similar in detail to the glass illustrated in the Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840 page.202, Fig. 341 and has fine carved capitols, a lion mask and crossed ribbons along the cornice. The original gilding has been restored where it had become worn.
There are two labels on the back: the paper label of Thomas Fentham, 136 Strand and a brass label: ''this glass Mary Alsheton gave to her mother''
circa 1820
