Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early nineteenth-century Scandinavian country lidded box originates from Sweden and dates from circa 1800. Fashioned in a circular form from solid oak, the piece displays a warm brown timber tone, a fitted lid, and turned rim grooves. Minor surface marks and losses show on the aged wooden surfaces of this naive turned box. The piece measures 10 cm high, 19.5 cm wide, and 19.5 cm deep in practical terms. The box remains functional as an everyday item today and is suitable for placement on a bedside table in a rustic farmhouse interior. Small everyday items such as jewellery, keys, or small trinkets fit securely inside the container. Placing the lidded box on a bedroom surface adds character and practical storage to the room.

FAQs

Early 19th-century Scandinavian folk art boxes were typically hand-carved or turned from local hardwoods such as oak, birch, or pine, serving functional household storage purposes while featuring regional incised or carved details.

Craftsmen utilised solid hardwoods, frequently turning the timber on a lathe or hand-carving from a single piece before shaping a fitted lid, resulting in durable, seamless containers.

Authentic examples display natural timber shrinkage over time, slight asymmetry from age, subtle tool marks from hand turning, and a dark, natural patina within the grain.

A compact carved box functions well on a bedside table, desk, or mantelpiece, offering discreet storage for jewellery or small keepsakes while adding natural texture.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once a year to maintain the wood finish without clogging carved grooves.
