Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French Rococo Revival display cabinet follows the sedan chair style, constructed from kingwood with warm brown tones, glass, vernis martin panels, and ormolu mounts. The freestanding furniture piece stands 174 cm high, 67.3 cm wide, and 66 cm deep, featuring serpentine glass to the front and sides, bombe-fronted painted panels depicting figures, gilded ormolu mounts along the edges, and cabriole legs terminating in carved feet. The upper section contains a single glass shelf backed by pale fabric lining, topped by an ornate decorative ormolu finial, while the lower panels display hand-painted scenes within gilded borders. Position this display cabinet in a formal living room, hallway, or drawing room to showcase glassware, ceramics, or collectibles. The glazed panels and open interior shelves allow light to pass through from multiple angles, illuminating displayed items against the pale interior fabric. The compact footprint makes it suitable for corners or wall placements where floor space is limited, adding French chateau character to traditional interiors.

FAQs

A sedan style vitrine is a French glazed display cabinet designed to imitate the arched hood, serpentine front, and compact side profile of an 18th-century sedan chair.

These cabinets were constructed using hardwood frames veneered with exotic woods like kingwood or satinwood, featuring hand-cast gilded bronze ormolu mounts, curved glass panels, and lacquered Vernis Martin panels.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-chased bronze mounts, hand-painted artwork displaying characteristic craquelure on the panels, and traditional cabinetmaking joinery on the reverse and undersides.

Positioning a glazed vitrine against a minimalist wall in a living room, dining room, or hallway creates visual interest while offering protected storage for porcelain, glassware, or decorative collectables.

Dust surfaces regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth, avoid liquid solvents on painted panels or gilding, and maintain consistent room humidity to prevent veneer movement.
