The George IV period, spanning from 1820 to 1830, bridges Regency and early Victorian design, characterised by heavy classical influences, robust proportions, and the frequent use of dark exotic timbers like rosewood and mahogany.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised dense imported hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, often featuring hand-turned legs, carved crest rails, and traditional upholstery stuffed with horsehair over webbing.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction techniques, such as hand-cut joints, patination of the timber, original maker stamps where applicable, and period-appropriate wear consistent with early 19th-century manufacturing.

Pairing historical timber chairs with a contemporary minimalist table creates a striking focal point, blending centuries of craftsmanship with clean, modern lines for a curated aesthetic.

Maintain rosewood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly, and dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
