The William IV period, spanning from 1830 to 1837, bridges the Regency era and early Victorian design, characterised by bold, heavy proportions, classical revival motifs, and rich, dark timbers such as mahogany and rosewood.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany or veneered onto secondary woods, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hardware, and original silvered glass plates with bevelled or flat edges.

Authenticity is indicated by heavy, dense timber grain, hand-turned scroll supports, traditional flat-head screws, foxing or oxidisation on the original glass, and sturdy plinth bases often resting on bun feet.

Place the mirror on a contemporary console table or minimalist chest of drawers to create a striking contrast between historical craftsmanship and clean, modern lines.

Keep the mirror out of direct sunlight to prevent timber fading, dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, and avoid using chemical sprays on both the wood finish and the aged glass.
