Unusual armchair in a throne-like medieval design, made from an extremely heavy and nutty-coloured pine. The boarded back has a shaped top and is flanked by uprights with fluted terminals and shaped arms and supports with panelled sides. The seat has a circular cut-out, presumably for it to be used as a commode at some point in the past. The base has square legs with panels to the sides and rear, with the front being open and having an arched top.
(The front base rail has been replaced or added for stability. There may originally have been a base.)
Circa 1700.
Height: 43 inches; 109 cms.
